Publishing in Literary Journals

Are you an emerging writer or experienced? Do you write fiction or nonfiction—or poetry? At 7pm on Wednesday, September 13, come join the SLPA to learn tips and techniques on how to get published in literary journals. Meet our panel of established writers who will share their personal experiences and inside knowledge on the topic of publishing in literary journals. The Literary Journals panel will include Kelli Allen, Gianna Jacobson, Linda O’Connell, and Kim Lozano and will be hosted by Peggy Nehmen.

Kelli Allen’s work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies in the US and internationally. She is Poetry Editor for The Lindenwood Review and directs River Styx’s Hungry Young Poets Series. Her chapbook, Some Animals, won the 2016 Etchings Press Prize, and her chapbook, How We Disappear, won the 2016 Damfino Press Award. Her full-length poetry collection, Otherwise, Soft White Ash, arrived from John Gosslee Books (2012) and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Gianna Jacobson is the editor and publisher of december, a semi-annual literary journal based in St. Louis with contributors and subscribers all over the world. Gianna has an MFA in creative writing with an emphasis in fiction from UMSL, and her stories and essays have appeared in a variety of publications. Linda O’Connell is a two-time recipient of Metro Arts in Transit poetry award. Kim Lozano teaches creative writing for the St. Louis Writers Workshop and St. Louis Oasis. She served as a senior contributing editor at River Styx for six years.
